Designers are a rare breed and share the traits of visual talent and OCD.
Designers find themselves needing to adjust crooked artwork in public spaces. We also tend to pet or touch fabrics, finishes, and nearly every surface we come across. We just can't help it! #designisinmydna
I know that, like me, you have memories of design that go back to your childhood. My first foray into interior design dates back to when I was a little girl. My parents say that I would lead my father upstairs to instruct him of how I wanted to rearrange all of my bedroom furniture. I was in only in preschool! #addictedtodesign
I know that my true calling is design. I am blessed to find a career that suits my quirky, creative soul. #designisnotmyhobby
A fellow designer once asked me if, while babysitting for someone, I ever rearranged their furniture. Of course, I had! We laughed together while she described how as a teenager, she did the same. #designrockstar
Even though I caught the "design bug" early on, I detoured from design and spent several years in my 20's working as a police officer. Long story short, I returned to design when I was injured on duty. Surprisingly though, I have encountered more “life and death” emergencies as a designer than all of my time in law enforcement. #itsjustafuckingpillow
It still amazes me that an element of home decor can truly put some people over the edge. #hgtvisnotmyfriend
Designers are required to wear many hats in the course of our workday. We are part designer, therapist, accountant, cheerleader, and teacher. Some of our clients are quite challenging and require all these hats in a single meeting! #nodesigndrama
Even so, I love what I do. I consider myself a people pleaser and love the accolades (and cooing) from clients at the reveal. But if I am truly honest, transforming a space and creating the “after” photo is the best reward. #livefortheafterphoto
Am I the only designer to admit this?
